This week, all my classes learned about Picasso and his blue period. In the two younger groups, we read Pigasso and Mootise by Nina Laden, which definitely got a few laughs. My K-2 group then drew birds with guided drawing. Their challenge was to mix a variety of colors using only blue, turquoise, green and white. The next week, we cut these birds out, glued them on turquoise paper and added pattern to both the birds and the background with oil pastels in the same color groups. This project forced students to explore mixing colors. I think they were amazed by how many colors they could achieve with a limited palette. I love the happy, fun birds they produced.
