The new session got off to a great start this week. We started by reading Petunia by Roger Duvoisin. This is a classic story written in 1950 about a goose who finds a book and believes it has given her wisdom. This “wisdom” causes her to be proud and gets her and her animal friends in all kinds of trouble. It is such a sweet story with a wonderful message. After the story, we drew Petunia with either a light chalk pastel or a black oil pastel. Students were given a limited palette of tempera paint to work with, similar to the colors in the cover of the book. Interestingly, though, many students requested plates so they could mix their own colors. I love that all the previous color mixing projects have stuck with them. They are really learning how to mix whatever colors they need. Here are a few of our proud Petunias.
