Back in December (Yes, I am behind in posting!), we had a Christmas Workshop. It was a lot of fun, but the holidays kept me so busy, I am just now getting around to sharing the projects. For the main project, I decided to have students illustrate a partridge in a pear tree. We sang the song and looked at how several artists chose to illustrate the lyrics. We worked on golden yellow paper. I helped them get started with drawing but gave them lots of freedom. We used tempera paint in lots of rich colors and of course, gold to give it some holiday pizazz. I think these are adorable!
The partridge in a pear tree project was adorable but not super Christmas-y, which is why I think I like it so much. However, it was a Christmas workshop, and we had two hours. So, we had time for a quick, traditional Christmas craft. We made poinsettias from paper plates. Students cut out leaf shapes from three different sizes of paper plates and painted them with sponges, assembled them, and used oil pastels for details. Gold glitter was the final touch. This was my first Christmas workshop, but I definitely, want to do one next year.
