Amedeo Modigliani was an Italian artist known for his unique style of portraits. This past summer, I participated in Carla Sonheim’s “Kid’s Art Week.” This was one of the projects. I loved the clean simplicity of this project but struggled to find a place for it in my curriculum. Our fall still life project was so intense; this felt like just the right time. Most of the students didn’t finish. But, I wanted to go ahead and post those who finished early. Students were told to draw an adult they knew (mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, teacher, etc…) I helped with proportion by drawing with them on the white board.
After the drawing was complete, we used water based markers to color the back ground shapes first. Then we added water to release the color from the marker to achieve a watercolor like effect. The last step was so outline the figure and add water.
I only have a few completed projects but am really liking what I am seeing. Some students who don’t usually like drawing came up with some really amazing portraits.
