In day two of Modern Masters, we learned about the art of Katsushika Hokusai, a famous Japanese painter and printmaker. We began by reading “The Great Wave” by Veronique Massenot and Bruno Pilorget. We then set out to create our own waves using black oil pastel, puck tempera, and white tempera for the ocean spray. We also talked about warm and cool colors and how Hokusai captured the essence of a wave in his famous print. I love how these turned out. I can almost smell the ocean air and feel the spray of water. Just like Hokusai, each student included Mount Fuji in the background.
Thank you to Patty at Deepspacesparkle for the project. : )
