This week students created these fabulous frogs with chalk pastel.
I recently found a beautiful frog calendar and knew it would make a great art project. The frogs had such great shapes and colors. I also wanted to give students an opportunity to draw from a photograph. I laminated the photographs in the calendar so each student would have their own to draw from. This is much more challenging than directed drawing but not quite as difficult as drawing from life. I think they were surprised by what they could do. After drawing these with a light chalk pastel, we got out the colored pastels and talked about layering colors. Some of them really created some amazing effects.
