The 3rd-5th grade classes have been working on an etching project for the last couple of weeks. We first created out own scratchboard with crayon and black tempera paint. Then we drew out our design on newsprint. The theme was “Where I would like to spend Christmas.” We ended up with a wide variety of scenes from a Seahawks game to the beach or a cabin in the woods. The finished drawings were transferred to the scratchboard. Students then etched their drawings and used oil pastels to add color. This was very different that most projects we do, and the students really enjoyed the multi step process.
