We started a colorful fish project this week. Most of the students didn’t finish, but I wanted to share the completed ones. They are so bright and fun!
These were drawn with black oil pastel. Details were drawn with white oil pastel. We talked about warm and cool colors and chose either a warm or cool liquid watercolor for the background. Sprinkling salt on the wet watercolor created a cool textured pattern. We switched to puck tempera paint for the fish. I did a demonstration on how to paint a graded wash, gradually changing colors. They then painted their fish in either warm or cool colors to contrast their background colors.
