I love how these clipper ships turned out! The drawing of the ships was a bit more technical than our usual projects, and watercolor is much more difficult to handle than most people think. Even with those challenges, both classes did a fabulous job! I guided them through the drawing of the boat but allowed students to add land and other details on their own. They drew in pencil and then went over their lines with an extra fine Sharpie. Then they painted with pan watercolor. Getting the right ratio of paint and water was a challenge. Some of the students had enough time to work on graded washes to create shadows on the white sails.
