The last two weeks, we have been working on a painting/collage of birds in cherry blossom trees. I loved that this project taught skills, like applying a graded wash with watercolor, while allowing for a lot of creativity.
We started by painting a bright sunset in watercolor. Then, we created “blob” birds on a separate page. The next week, we painted our tree trunks in black watercolor and the cherry blossoms in tempera. Then, we turned out blobs into birds, cut them out, and glued them in the branches of our trees.
I love how these turned out! These are from both Wednesday classes, K-5th.
