We had a great time today in the Wednesday K-2 class creating these patterned cats inspired by Gustav Klimt. We began by reading Klimt and His Cat by Berenice Capalti. This story is told from the perspective of Kilimt’s cat, Katze.
We drew the cats together on black paper with white oil pastel. Staring with a simple cat form, we filled in with pattern, inspired by Klimt. Klimt used a lot of gold in his paintings, so students colored in their patterned cats with metallic oil pastels. These are so fun to work with and go on like butter.
Since there was some smudging on the black paper after they finished, I cut the cats out and mounted them on blue paper. I loved how these turned out and especially loved the smiles on students’ faces as they showed mom or dad their awesome work. : )
